Team building after downsizing

After reading this article, a few of us have been engaged into a conversation about the value of team building after a layoff.

In troubling economic times, layoffs are an inevitable thing. If I'm one one the people still working after another round of cuts, I'm not going to feel secure about my position. Who knows when the slashing is done? Who knows if I'm next?

No matter what, it would do a world of good if the company expressed the thankfulness of the people working. Idle words won't help, but it getting out and doing an activity would probably make me a lot more relaxed and better capable to contribute, focus, and work productively.
