Why do Timbers win at home and not on the road?

It is dismal. Including the pre-season so far, the Portland Timbers (our very own Major League Soccer Team) have won 1, lost 6, and tied 3 games while away from Portland. ESPN and sports analysts will tell you all sorts of reasons why our very own the Timbers have this streak of winning at home and losing on the road. Some will say it is the loss of the familiarity of the home field, that nerves kick it into high gear, or even that the other teams’ fans get inside the heads of our players.  Regardless, it is very clear that something is different when the Timbers fly away.

I would like to offer up my own thoughts to the Timber’s major malfunction. On the road, the Timbers are missing the biggest member of the team; the fans. We have been getting worldwide acclaim for our huge fan base for a brand new team and it seems like they make a huge difference. The Timbers, just like the rest of us do best when we have a cheerleader, or in Timber’s case, a city full of cheerleaders. We have been getting worldwide acclaim for our huge fan base for a brand new team and it seems like they make a huge difference.

Who is the Cheerleader on your team? Does he/she get recognized for the obvious role they are filling to encourage everyone at their various tasks?
